I'm the Firepig, born in 1947, and I've been studying the 60-year Chinese zodiac cycle for over 35 years. The Fire Horse comes around once in that full cycle, and every time it does, careers end, industries transform, and new names emerge from nowhere. Some of the disruption is catastrophic. Some of it is the best thing that ever happened to the people it hit. But passive? The Fire Horse year is never passive.
The question is not whether your career will be affected. It will. The question is which direction.

First: the job market itself is not great. I'm not going to pretend otherwise. Speed and instability have made a difficult market even more difficult. Opportunities appear quickly and disappear quickly. The people getting traction are the ones who are alert, prepared, and able to act immediately when something opens up.
Second: AI is accelerating the disruption in ways that have no historical precedent. In 1906 and 1966, industries were being disrupted by physical and social forces. In 2026, the disruption is cognitive — the tools that multiply human output are available to anyone who learns to use them. This is not background context. This is the defining career dynamic of this particular Fire Horse year.

Not because the universe is malicious — but because the year's acceleration exposes whatever was already fragile and pretending not to be.
The people doing well? They're proactive. They're not waiting to be reactive to whatever comes at them. They're leading in their organizations, volunteering for visible projects, using the year's creative spark to build something new. They've identified where their energy is going to give results and they've gone full speed.
Half effort doesn't get there this year. 110% is what creates results.
What to Do Right Now
Three things. I'll be direct.
First: volunteer for something visible. Get in front of a project your boss and coworkers can see. Even if others execute it, be the driving force. This is the year people get noticed, and the people who get noticed are the ones who were in front of something that mattered.
Second: use the year's creative fire to build something new. An idea, a solution, a tool that adds value to your organization. If you're in a technical role, this is the year to learn to build an AI agent for your workflow. If it works, you don't just have a better job — you become the example for everyone else.
Third: figure out what makes your boss look good and do it. This works every year. But in a Fire Horse year, where people are getting noticed and rewarded at a faster pace than usual, executing this one thing can change the trajectory of your career faster than you'd believe.
And one thing to avoid: don't look for disruption you don't have to find. Don't go searching for a new job if yours is workable. Don't push for organizational changes you don't need to push for. The year is already generating plenty of disruption. You don't need to add more.
Channel the fire energy into the right places. That's the formula. That's the pattern from 1906, from 1966, and from every reading I've done this year.
